iPhone and iPad
On an iPhone this is a Safari feature, not a website one. If you are reading this in Chrome or in another app's built-in browser, open seysays.app in Safari first — elsewhere the same steps produce a bookmark rather than the app.
- Open seysays.app in Safari.
- Tap Share — the square with an arrow leaving it. It is along the bottom of the screen on an iPhone, and at the top right on an iPad.
- Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
- The name comes up as B-Sey™. Tap Add.
If Add to Home Screen is not in the list, tap Edit Actions at the bottom of it and switch it on.
Install before you build the circle.
On an iPhone the installed app keeps its own store, separate from Safari's. Names added in the browser tab are not in the icon's copy, and the icon opens to an empty circle.
Nothing is lost — what you entered is still in the tab — but the circle has to be built once, in whichever of the two you mean to keep.
Android
In Chrome:
- Open seysays.app.
- Tap the three dots at the top right.
- Tap Install app. On some phones it reads Add to Home screen — the same thing.
- Confirm with Install.
Chrome sometimes offers this by itself, as a bar along the bottom of the screen. Taking the offer does the same thing.
Samsung Internet, Edge and Firefox each name it a little differently — look through the menu for Install or Add to Home screen. Firefox sometimes makes a shortcut rather than an app. It opens the right thing either way.
On a computer
Chrome and Edge put an install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar. Safari on a Mac has File → Add to Dock. Firefox does not install web apps, and the app runs perfectly well in a tab.
It is built for a phone going round a circle, so a laptop is the second-best way to run it.
What installing does not do
It does not make an account, because there is no account to make. It asks for nothing. It is not from an app store, and nothing runs in the background.
Names, voices and photos stay on the phone that recorded them whether the app is installed or not. Installing changes where the app lives, never what it keeps. What the app does.
Removing the icon removes the circle stored with it.
